Rapid Prototyping and Engineering
Design partner of choice for mission-critical solutions, through rapid iteration of customer parts and components.
Our Rapid Prototyping and Engineering (RPE) Center delivers quick turn solutions for medical device manufacturers and related healthcare fields through a broad range of molding, extrusion, and additive manufacturing (AM) capabilities. Product and application areas include device components, medical balloons, fittings, tubing, overmolded assemblies, and catheter technologies.
Our design engineers evaluate every proposal to determine if RPE is the right choice for design and development. RPE is an especially good fit for:
Design and manufacturing capabilities at the prototyping and engineering center are:
Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing)
Injection Molding
Networked Support
AM core competencies are FDM, PTTP, PµSL, SLA, SLS, Silicone, and SLM. Materials include a variety of thermoplastics, photopolymers, silicones, and metals. These advanced AM technologies enable us to produce high-precision components for medical devices, which become harder to make as they get smaller and more complex. Our primary AM methods are:
“Spectrum Plastics has invested in additive manufacturing to support quick-turn prototyping and innovation to solve challenging problems with quicker solutions. From micro and metal parts to medical-grade thermoplastic parts, we can support your prototyping needs at high speed.” —Tyler Stark, Innovation Hub Leader
The best products result from collaboration between design teams that share the same vision and enthusiasm for turning an idea into an industry-leading product, regardless of size or sales volume. Not only do these products have fewer iterations, they get to market faster because performance, compliance, or cost issues are often resolved during the design stage through rapid prototyping.
Speed is the name of the game in medical device manufacturing and getting to market months before the competition is the result of excellent communication, experienced leadership, and manufacturing advantages.
Customers can submit inquiries directly online. AM engineering specialists will review each submission to evaluate feasibility, cost, and material. You can expect to receive a quote within 48 hours. Once the P.O. is placed, we will schedule the machines and run the prototype.
